Our “Feeding Future Leaders” program began in 2016 as a partnership with Hope Church. As a significant number of students attending TJHS are bused from low-income homes located in all corners of the City of Richmond (95% do not live in the district) and as of October 2013, 74% received a subsidized breakfast when they arrive and are served lunch at 10:30 a.m. Most do not return home from extracurricular activities until 7 or 8pm, where prospects for a nutritious dinner are often questionable. Our focus of support are students remaining after school for Baseball, Softball, Soccer, track, etc.
This season, we plan to distribute meals provided by Mr. Submarine and other local businesses, on the days of athletic events.
